Disco Dolls Collection

Where it started...

The beginning of my digital art 2019 - 2020

It all started when I was in my final year of college studying product development. I was creating various pieces and tech packs for my final project & portfolio for future jobs.

As the pandemic hit I suddenly had all this free time on my hands. The world was at a compete stop and for the first time in my life I was able to pause and stop stressing about the future since we didn't know if there was going to be one period...Yikes (I shouldn't have watched contagion or bird box) ANYWAY.... As a result, I was able to afford simple distractions.

I felt my pieces were missing something, so I decided to take them to another level. I came to the conclusion my designs were craving glamorous women to bring them to life...

Peep the Pinko tag... We had to create products for certain brands and I chose Pinko!

And then...

2020

It was peak pandemic and I was running out of art supplies and my fabric scraps began to bore me, I took my iPad and let my imagination run. The more I created the better my skills got. I had so much free time to better my skills and I just kept making these girls look more and more realistic.

I  finally got back to my roots as an artist though, aside from being just an artist I somehow became a makeup artist, hair stylist, fashion designer, and more while I created. There were no limits to what I was creating and time didn't feel real.

Don't worry, the girls were not included in my tech packs and final projects.

Bringing them to life...

I fell in love with the coat I created and I dreamed of wearing it.

Well guess what, I did get to wear it, virtually...

I drew on matching shoes and accessorized accordingly.

Faces go places...

These days...

After creating many women of all different walks of life. I decided to give them a name. Because they all seemed to represent various women you'd meet on the dance floor, I named them Disco Dolls.

I invented these women purely out of my imagination, I gave them personalities, style, and more.

Soon I began to take the glamorous women in my life who inspired me and turned them into Disco Dolls.

Suddenly, everyone became a disco doll.

In this image on the left,  it's my best friend Temsup and I casually roaming around the lower east side looking to grab a bite somewhere. If you were in the area you probably saw us...

The Dolls Get Real...

Yup, even Disco Dolls get psoriasis!

The more I played around with my self portraits, the more realistic they got. I mean, I don't actually have cucumbers for eyes or a long lizard tongue but I do have psoriasis!

As a psoriasis advocate I felt that it was important to make my girls inclusive. I wanted to create women who can relate to real women with real life conditions, especially the ones who suffer with autoimmune diseases like psoriasis and vitiligo.

Growing up with psoriasis I had nobody to look up to, I used to take colorful markers and  draw spots all over my barbie dolls to make them look like me. I also gave them tattoos and piercings but that's a story for another day....

Maybe a Little Too Real...

The dolls are out here getting the same procedures you get too! You might even run into them at your clinic... I mean who doesn't love a little bit of hyaluronic acid injections and minor nips an tucks here and there... Even the Statue of Liberty got a little refresher. I'm all for embracing your natural beauty, but I'm also not against enhancements. It's your body you can do whatever you please, as for the Disco Dolls same.
